Erik Mortimer – Piano

Erik Mortimer is a musician, composer and music director based in Edmonton Alberta Canada. His love of jazz music, harmony and focus on theatrical storytelling have allowed his compositions a unique voice in both the musical theatre and jazz idioms. Erik’s musical voice is influenced by the sound of film composers, the rhythms and grooves of New Orleans music and the improvisations of jazz greats.
Erik’s compositions and Music Direction have both been recognized with Sterling awards by Alberta’s theatre community with his composition of Capitol Theatre’s “Sleeping Beauty” and music direction, on Theatre Network’s “The Last Five Years”. He has also been nominated for Sterling’s on five other productions. He has composed several musical scores including the Capitol Theatre’s “Robin Hood”, “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Cinderella”, Thou Art Here’s “Kill Shakespeare” and “Shakespeare’s Will” and Rapid Fire Theatre’s “How the Blank Stole Christmas”. Erik has been fortunate to work with many outstanding artists and company’s including the Citadel Theatre, Mayfield Theatre, and many others and is very grateful for the variety of amazing experiences and interactions that have come about. He has performed with world class musicians including Simone Denny, Mitch Watkins and Andrea House including performances at the Edmonton Folk Fest, and The Winspear Centre. Erik is also currently the music director with Rapid Fire’s “Off Book the Improvised Musical” and is a rehearsal pianist at Ballet Edmonton. Aside from music, Erik has a great passion for sport finding time to enjoy mountain bikes and skis in the mountains.
