The Edmonton Jazz Society’s Jazz School program offers engaging, live jazz performances for Division II and Division III students at Yardbird Suite.
Designed to support Alberta curriculum outcomes, these concerts introduce students to jazz styles, concepts, and live performance in an intimate, professional setting.
2026-2027 Performances
Jazz School in October, March, April, and May will address learning outcomes from the Alberta Education Program of Studies in music for Division II students (Grades 4–6), exploring a range of jazz styles. A supporting document outlining goals and objectives will be provided to help teachers prepare students for their experience.

The January session (three days, six performances) is designed for Division III (junior high) students and will focus on topics recommended by junior high teachers, including swing eighth notes, jazz articulation, and the role of rhythm section instruments.

Bookings are accepted on a first-requested basis and confirmed upon verification of availability.
Yardbird Suite has a capacity of 135 attendees per performance. Larger groups may be scheduled across multiple dates, and smaller groups may be combined within a single performance.

Cancellations and Changes
- Cancellations or changes to booking numbers may be made without charge up to four weeks prior to the performance date.
- Changes made within four weeks of the performance may be subject to a charge of up to 50% of the cost of the affected seats.
- Changes made within two weeks of the performance may be subject to the full cost of the booking.
- In the event of a no-show, refunds will not be issued. Where possible, we will work with schools to reschedule. All adjustments are at the discretion of the Edmonton Jazz Society.
Teacher Participation Option
Music teachers are invited to join the Jazz School band for one tune during the performance, either by singing or playing an instrument. If you are interested, please let us know when booking. You and the band will select a suitable piece together.
This optional opportunity allows teachers to model their musicianship and engage directly with the performance experience.
