These American guitar heroes revolutionized their respective genres, jazz and funk, through the use of original techniques and concepts – western music would not be what it is without them. As a household name, Wes Montgomery is a giant of the bebop, bossa nova, big band and swing jazz history with a formidable set of records behind him. Lesser known by name but perhaps more by sound, Hearlon “Cheese” Martin laid the foundations of funk guitar treating the instrument as a rhythmic device and allowing it to persuade its listener into a trance. His sound became the voice of the 70’s heard in groups such as Kool & the Gang, Funkadelic – Parliament, The Meters, Rufus & Chaka Khan, Cheryl Lynn, Bill Withers and more, all of who owe their methods to Cheese. This show will travel through a chronology of their careers starting at the beginning of Wes’s recordings in 1960, all the way through Cheese’s final record from the J.B.s in 1975.
