Tuesday Jam Hosted by Biboye Onanuga

Making his Yardbird Jam Hosting debut, Biboye Onanuga presents “The Music of Monk” joined by an iconoclast ensemble of local musicians.

     8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

“’The key to swing jazz is to swing it.’ Monk’s words are often top of mind when I play this music.

One of the beautiful things about this genre is the ability for an individual’s essence to unravel through their playing. Their touch, feel, interpretations, etc . . . these things tell you about a person. And while technical skill and ability may be heard, ‘a genius is the one most like himself’ (Monk) – their sound is felt. I am inspired by the players who seek to earnestly express themselves through the medium of music. Monk may have been the greatest of these. So we celebrate him and his contributions the best way we know how – through the music that was uniquely his own.”

Join us in kicking off the Yardbird Jam with a short set featuring Monk tunes and arrangements.

Biboye Onanuga is a British-born, Nigerian-Canadian drummer, and imaginative composer. A recent MacEwan University music graduate, Biboye quickly became a sought-after player, joining nationally-recognized players such as Jim Head, Rubim DeToledo, Mboya Nicholson to name a few. Biboye has made meaningful contributions to the local scene through his instrumental hip-hop/jazz band, Good information, and the 2-year-tenure weekly music series, New Standards.

Our live Tuesday Jam is hosted by a musician and a band while audience members join in on the fun by jamming along on stage.

Musicians who want to participate in the Jam can purchase a “Jam Participant” ticket at a reduced cost.

All Jam Participants need to register at the door upon entry to the event.

We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.
