    8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

The Marsalis brothers came up through various iterations of Art Blakey’s bands as well as individually leading and co-leading a variety of ensembles. The Marsalis brothers’ music was a smart combination of contemporary jazz techniques, arranging and performing that drew on the breadth of the history of jazz and classical music, and was deeply rooted in early swing while innovating for a new era.

The Berner Brothers, Don and Doug, both born and raised in Edmonton, strive to recreate some of the music of the Marsalis Brothers, music they grew up with and were both heavily influenced by. They have both been featured on many recordings as well as at numerous jazz clubs and festivals throughout North America including the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. They are regularly in demand freelancers in the city of Edmonton. Joined by a stellar group of local musicians to recreate the Marsalis Brothers’ music, this promises to be one of the most unforgettable shows of the season.
