Having met “on the scene” as they say, their connection was immediate, both musically and personally-speaking. The decision to make a mostly jazz ballads album just prior to the pandemic resulted from a collective desire to honor the mysterious unfolding of the muse, welcoming both surprise and sure-fire musical navigation, leading and supporting one another in a slow dance through time. “Balladextrous” is the result of that playfully circuitous and soulful journey. Dahlen, a JUNO-award winning jazz vocalist and Coon, a National Jazz Awards winning guitarist, look forward to bringing their soothing duo to many stages across the globe!
Award-winning songstress and songsmith, Sienna Dahlen was born in the pristine Kootenays and raised in the gutsy dusty Peace River region of northern British Columbia. Her upbringing and influences whir like vintage jukebox singles rooted in everything from the Beatles to Joni Mitchell to Bill Frisell. Passionately paving her own path, Sienna’s music and sound scale the perimeters of jazz, folk and at times, the spatial avant-garde, and they do so with one goal in mind and heart; to shower her listeners with a rhapsody of sonic love.
Bill Coon is a Juno nominated performer and recipient of the 2009 National Jazz Awards, Guitarist of the Year. Coon leads several of his own groups including the Bill Coon Trio and Quartet as well the BC Double Quartet whose recording, Departure with Brad Turner on trumpet and violinist Cameron Wilson was nominated for a 2019 Western Canadian Music Award. He is featured on two Western Canadian Music Award winning recordings, including Down in the Bottom by Night Crawlers and the Big Band Sound.
