Featuring guest vocalist, the Edmonton-based soul/jazz songstress Karimah, the band ignites the stage with irresistible grooves, melodies, and improvisations sure to please the body, soul, and mind.
Locally, bassist and composer Rubim de Toledo is a top-call side-person and fertile band leader. In 2021, Rubim won the Western Canadian Music Award (WCMA) for Instrumental Artist of the Year, and in 2018 he won the WCMA Jazz award.
He is a founding member of the Albertan Latin groups Montuno West, Bomba, and Maracujah. As well, Rubim serves as a frequent musical director and composer for Calgary’s Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and is the head of the bass department at MacEwan University.
KARÍMAH is a french/english speaking singer/songwriter also known as the genre-bending Ashanti Karimah. A studio artist and vocalist for international and local acts in the Edmonton nightclub scene from 2007-2012, KARÍMAH broke out as a solo performing artist in 2014 winning grand prizes at Western Canadian songwriting and performance competitions Polyfonik, Chant’Ouest, and the Memphis Bound blues Challenge. Karimah reached the top 24 on “The Voice Canada” season 5, a.k.a “La Voix” in 2017. in recent years, she has expanded her repertoire by collaborating with Calgary’s Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, and the dream-pop band Verttigo.
