Rooster Davis & Dave Babcock present The Music of Dr. John’s Bluesiana Triangle

“For me no one makes the piano sound cooler than Dr. John, and the detail in his playing really shows how intentional his sound is. From the first time I heard him, I knew this was how I wanted to sound, and he has influenced my own playing more than any other player.” – Rooster Davis

In the early nineties New Orleans giant Dr. John teamed up with the legendary jazz drummer Art Blakey and saxophone great David “Fathead” Newman on a project called Bluesiana Triangle. With considerable help from award-winning trombonist Ray Anderson, this all-star crew released a critically acclaimed album for Windham Hill Records.

“Three veteran greats combined efforts on this recording for a back-to-basics album of blues-oriented material and joined forces in a diverse and frolicsome encounter.” Offbeat Magazine

Dr. John, Newman and Anderson reconvened again, after the passing of Blakey, with Will Calhoun of Living Colour on drums, for Bluesiana II. Once again, the team presented a superb and satisfying gumbo of funky, jazz-blues injected tunes, mixing originals with classic New Orleans fare. Rooster Davis will be leading a cast of local all-stars through the meat of these two Bluesiana recordings for a one-night only celebration of these wonderful recordings.
