Members all share a common enthusiasm for big band jazz. The music they perform spans from the classics of the big band era through to the modern repertoire of today.
River City Big Band’s final concert of the season brings the old and the new together in an outstanding concert of big band music. We have asked six established and emerging composers to compose new works inspired by six classic big band charts for this season’s commissioning concert. Join us on April 27 for the premiere of works by Chris Andrew, Tom van Seters, Paul Suchan, Joe Dutton, June, and the band’s own JF Picard, as well as the classic charts that inspired them by Thad Jones, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, and Tommy Dorsey. The band will also premiere the first two movements of Allan Gilliland’s newest suite, The Belgariad. It will be a celebration of the old and the new, and a great reason to buy a glass of wine.

The City of Edmonton has taken away the Yardbird Suite's parking discount code, (effective April 6, 2025); they will not install a kiosk, so scan the QR code in the parking & pay online lot to ensure you will not be ticketed. The parking rate will now be $6 maximum from 5 pm to 2 am (or $2.50 per hour).Tickets will also be available at the door if not previously sold out online. Doors open at 7pm. Music starts at 8pm.

Yardbird Suite has cabaret seating: seats are available first-come, first-served. Please be aware that a couple seated at a table for four may be sharing the table with new friends if the performance is busy.
