Mboya Nicholson, Piano

Jazz pianist Mboya Nicholson presents a performance full of swinging originals and some classics out of the Basie and Ellington repertoire; as well as other favourites.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Mboya has been part of the Alberta music scene since the 1990’s. Through the years, he has performed tribute concerts to Paul Robeson, Sidney Bechet and Thelonious Monk. For 7 years, he lived in New Orleans, where he studied at the University of New Orleans, learning from titans of jazz. Mboya has performed in Guadeloupe, Japan, and for the Consul General of the Netherlands. He has been commissioned to compose by Ars Musica in Toronto.

Currently Mboya resides in Edmonton where he performs, and teaches jazz piano at MacEwan University.
