Joe Semple

Joe Semple is a clarinetist, composer, and educator from Edmonton, Alberta and The Licorice Sticks are his muse.

  • May 18, 2024
    8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Melding the sweet sounds of the clarinet quartet into the stylings of a miniature big band, his pieces featuring the gloom tube are anything but gloomy. Writing and arranging a variety of genres from swing, to samba, to gospel, and everything in between, Joe draws inspiration from the great European jazz saxophone quartets including; Itchy Fingers, Q4, the Cologne Saxophone Quintet, and Forkolor. Joe Semple & The Licorice Sticks released their first album Licorice Tango in the fall of 2023 and are thrilled for their debut on the Yardbird Suite stage. You’ve never heard the clarinet like this before.
