Gus Butcher is an Edmonton based guitarist and educator. Graduating from MacEwan University’s Bachelor of Music program, Gus has studied under renown guitarists Jamie Philp, Mo Lefever, Jim Head, as well as George Koufogiannakis. Throughout the years, Butcher’s compositions derived from traditional and modern Jazz style, but over the course of this pandemic he has begun exploring Neo-soul and Hip-Hop combined with elements of electronica rooted in Jazz improvisation. This music is influenced by Rob Araujo, Paul Castelluzzo, and Kiefer amongst others. This has been a year focused around finding that creative spark and exploring different sounds without being tied down to any past boundaries. Gus is excited to share this music with you and could not be more excited to bring it to the Yardbird Suite’s Virtual Series.
