Arranged for his newly founded sextet, the music showcases a melding of vocals and sax across a variety of genres and styles. He pulls deep inspiration from the jazz legends of past and present; people such as John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman, Bob Reynolds, Ben Wendel, as well as some Gospel-based figures like Immanuel Wilkins and Joel Ross. More recently however, his music has begun drawing upon his great love for R&B artists like Yebba, Victor Franco, Lawrence, and Brasstracks.
Listeners should expect to be taken through a journey of vast proportions; one that transports you through worlds both fantastical and familiar. His music is aimed at exploring and unpacking both the great heights and deep sorrows innate to the human condition. There is a special focus on the unique feelings associated with what we call youth or innocence and the ways it can be lost, but also regained as we grow older.
Combining lyrical storytelling and the vibrant colours painted through his instrumental arranging, Jacob’s music has something for everyone.
