Biboye Onanuga is a versatile drummer, and imaginative composer based here in Edmonton. Steeped in the arts scene since high-school, he quickly became a sought-after player — recently completing his music degree at MacEwan University. Inspired by innovative artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, and Jamire Williams, Biboye’s artistic vision embraces the abstract essence of instrumental music to create ephemeral, emotive expressions of the tangible experience of moving through the modern world. ‘Art for Art’s Sake’.

Biboye invites you on a journey through the expansive landscape of what he calls ‘Jazz’. From beat-driven hip-hop, to the audacious frontiers of modern boundary-pushing compositions that challenge convention. The night will be enveloped in the meditative embrace of Spiritual Jazz, and transport you to the vibrant rhythms of West Africa, where Biboye’s Nigerian roots flourish. Hear arrangements of the standard’s that inspired Biboye to play, and his own original music — blending all of these diverse influences.

Find the New Standard’s House Band at the heart of the band, glued together by almost 2 years playing together every week. They are joined by Zack Lim and Dana Anderson, to stretch out in Biboye’s favourite ensemble setting – the quintet.
