Dave Babcock and his Jump Orchestra with Mallory Chipman

(Edmonton)

Led by renowned saxophonist, singer, and bandleader Dave Babcock, the award-winning Jump Orchestra are known for their hard-swinging brand of jazz and vintage rhythms.

  • May 20, 2022
    8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

The Orchestra’s ten-piece line-up features some of Edmonton’s finest jazz players, including Bob Tildesley and Doug Berner (trumpet), Peter Filice (trombone), Jeremiah McDade and Dan Davis (saxophone) Chris Andrew (piano), Brett Hansen (guitar), Rubim de Toledo (bass), and Jamie Cooper (drums). Also appearing on this show is the wonderful Mallory Chipman, who performs regularly with the band as a featured vocalist.

The Jump Orchestra’s horn-driven sound is inspired by the scaled down “jump bands” that became wildly popular in the late 1940s. The group’s music is a tasty mix of swing, jazz and jump blues, mingled with Afro-Cuban and Caribbean styles. Dave Babcock’s smooth vocal delivery, influenced by singers like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Billy Eckstine is the perfect compliment to his robust saxophone tone.
