Kirmayer is a jazz guitarist, composer and native Montrealer.
Drawing inspiration from masters like Wes Montgomery and Grant
Green, Sam eschews effects in favour of a clear, direct tone and
maintains firm roots in the blues and hard bop traditions. He has
performed with some of Canada's finest musicians including André
White, Joel Miller, Mike Rud and Kevin Dean.
In April, 2017, Kirmayer released his first full length album "Opening Statement" on Chromatic Audio and was included in CBC Music's list of "The 35 Best Canadian Jazz Musicians under 35". He is very active in the Montreal jazz scene, with several weekly residencies and frequent appearances as both a leader and sideman at the city's major jazz clubs. Sam's sophomore album "High and Low" is set for a 2018 release on Cellar Live, this time in an organ trio featuring New York-based organist Ben Paterson and Dave Laing on drums.
"A Monster musician with an incredible tone."
